Register Now for Our 4th Annual Intensive Regional Anesthesia Course We are delighted to announce the 4th annual Intensive Regional Anesthesia Course co-hosted by the Departments of Anesthesia at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center, andNaval Medical Center San Diego. This weekend-long course combines expert cadaver dissections, small group hands-on ultrasound workshops, and updated lectures on state-of-the-art techniques by our internationally-recognized faculty.
Since regional anesthesia is the practice of applied anatomy, participants will have the opportunity to identify surface anatomic landmarks and correlate them to cross-sectional imaging at the point of care as well as study anatomic structures up close in the cadaver labs. New this year will be an optional advanced ultrasound workshop for participants who have already mastered basic skills in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia to learn and practice
cutting-edge techniques in an intensive small group setting. For more information and registration details, please click on the Workshops tab from the toolbar on the left. |

ASRA 2008: Meeting Wrap Up The UCSD Division of Regional Anesthesia was well-represented at the 2008 Spring meeting of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at the Aventura Resort on the Mayan Riviera. Four abstracts from UCSD were presented during the poster sessions, including one case report and 3 randomized clinical trials completed recently. Regional Anesthesia Fellow, Dr. Gloria Cheng, discussed the inventive use of ultrasound-guided perineural catheters in pediatric patients for medical missions abroad in addition to presenting the results of two multi-center studies comparing different concentrations of ropivacaine for outpatient continuous peripheral nerve blocks (PAINfRE Research Group, http://www.PAINfRE.com). Dr. Brian Ilfeld moderated the parallel session on continuous peripheral nerve blocks as well as the upper extremity nerve block comprehensive workshop and taught a workshop on continuous brachial plexus nerve block techniques. Dr. Ilfeld also presented the results of his landmark randomized controlled trial on continuous femoral nerve blocks and time to meet discharge criteria after total knee arthroplasty recently published in Anesthesiology. Dr. Edward Mariano taught workshops on pediatric regional anesthesia, thoracic paravertebral blocks, and upper extremity nerve blocks. For a complete list of abstracts to be presented at the 2008 ASRA meeting, please visit http://www.asra.com.
